The first Polish punk band to release the vinyl LP
outside of the commercial and state owned music
companies! As they started to play again in the summer
of 2011, 3 original members + a drummer and a guitarist
from WILCZY SZANIEC, we decided to make all their
releases available again. They played some live shows
with this line-up and the feedback is amazing.
Outstanding and unique band, that seems to see no
intention in eating its own tail. Their live set
contains a lot of new tracks!
They were the first band we released in 1991. Intense
hard core energy and very specific lyrics - poetical,
but still hard hitting.
The first d.i.y. record ever released in Poland was an
LP by a band from Krakow - INKWIZYCJA (and that was also
the first "proper" NNNW release). They were one of the
biggest bands in late 80's / early 90's when the d.i.y.
scene was forming in Poland. They played close to 400
gigs at the time, mainly Poland, but also Austria,
Czech, their Italian tour was cancelled last minute...
They never stopped to play, but had to change line up
some times. From mid-90s the line up remains the same.
They've recorded some songs in '85 in Gold Rock Studio
(run by Armia guitarist Robert Brylewski). Then, in '97
they recorded another 5 songs, that were released a year
later as 7"EP "Slowo" (The word"). In 2000 NNNW released
cassette "Slowo i archiwalia" ("The word and archive")
including 7" tracks, 2 cuts from Gold Rock session and
another 2 taken from the very first demo the band
released themselves even before the LP. Another side of
the tape contains the band's singer's poetry set (he
used to have live shows for some years, published a
couple of volumes himself) with some strange sampled
music backgrounds. It's important to note, that the
band's lyrics and singer's poetry made them icons of the
anti-religious punk scene. One of their concerts was
banned by local bishop who got mad seeing posters for
INKWIZYCJA and AMEN concert in his town.
In 2001 the band recorded another album - "Stare
fotografie" ("Old photos") and soon found itself in
hiatus for some years.
2011 line-up adds some fresh blood, manic drumming and
more guitar noise.

Czech CO-CA (Complicite Candide) are here for something
around 15 years. They are from Roznov-Vrah-city in the
east coast of Czech republic. They are Vrahs. Punk rock,
free minds, own attitudes. There are trademarks of this
battleship. LP was recorded in 2003. May be is better
sit down, listen to this LP and think about the things
are spoken in songs, and then speak about it, than
describe it.

fairytale told in Czech pub by fellow souls?
This album was mixed by Dan Rathbun at Polymorph - and
is completely not similar to Tragedy or His Hero Is Gone
stuff he made... But still great sounding, with all the
brass instruments accompanying the usual Czech magic
rhythm machine...

The summer heat of 2010 made some Warsaw dudes, who
have been pretty much experienced in playing hardcore,
metal and punk, decide to team up together to create a
musical hybrid that by any means couldn’t be called a
summer vacation soundtrack. Past and present members of
a few Warsaw bands (Government Flu, Drip of Lies,
Daymares, Coalition, Sunrise, Born Anew to name a few)
wrote really sinister, angry and filthy tunes, inspired
by the darkest and the most furious songwriting of last
decades (from Born Against and Rorschach, through
Entombed and Neurosis, to Cursed and Converge).
Bitterness and frustration helped to spawn a full length
made of 9 (well, rather IX) songs – some of them are
slow and heavy, some of them are raging fast. In the
very same hot summer the songs were recorded in their
homebase Warsaw and Nikt Nic Nie Wie got interested in
putting them out soon after that (both in vinyl and CD
format). To support the upcoming debut, Cast In Iron
will hit the road anytime soon, gigging throughout
Poland and beyond.

Passion and fury driven "archaic" hardcore.
Black Flag and Los Crudos are the hints here, but their
music is much more varied - they seem to have listened
to a lot of good stuff over the years. And they are an
incredible live act! Asian tour planned for summer 2011.

Their own words: "FAMILY
MAN have been formed after I listened to a lot of
post-My War Black Flag and wondered why there are no
bands playing the slower and heavier brand of hardcore
punk. We had just split up with my former band
ALLIANCE, and I had moved to Glasgow where I started
ATOMGEVITTER. Then I moved back to Berlin and asked
Machine (the bassist in ALLIANCE) to start a new band.
Michael Lampert joined in on drums and Harald von der
Hasenheide was recruited for bass. Originally I wanted
to sing like Rollins but sounded more like Martin from
LOS CRUDOS, so I was nicknamed Henry Crudos by my
friend Tommy. We didn't want to repeat mistakes we did
in former bands, such as dragging out the time before
the first gig or the first tour, so we quickly played
a first gig (with THE FIGHT), and a second one in
Berlin, then went straight on tour in the UK. From
then on it was as much touring as possible. We
recorded our first album at the practice room, mixed
it ourselves and off we went. For the second LP we
wanted to save time and have better sound, so we went
to Robin from THE NOW-DENIAL, who's a genius. It took
me some time to get accustomed to singing without a
guitar round my neck. But there ya go...
We really enjoy
playing together, and just hanging out with each
other. The band's an amalgamation of influences and
ideas about punk rock, and we departed from the Black
Flag idea early on, but I think we created our own
style. I hope it's interesting music and inspiring
lyrics. I don't like to play boring rip-off shit, or
listen to it."

Action Freedom - anarchopunk band from a little city
in poor area of Poland - they had a demo tape few years

singers. Amen was one of the most important political
punk bands in early 90's.

Czosnek (garlic!) gets heavier, adding another voice
makes it more brutal - Croatian review says "dark

prepared by friends. And a gatefold CD cover is another

DEFORMED "The anarchy years and primitive rituals" 2xCD

DEFORMED formed as a teenage punk combo in
Manchester in 1978 - and existed until 1987 - made
demos, singles, appeared on CRASS Records "Bullshit
Detector 2" compilation LP. Punk they played has taken a
direction Mob or Zounds took. Several years after
splitting up they were back as CRESS. Double CD contains
all their material that was saved.

DEZERTER - one of the bands that stood for Polish punk
sound in 80s, now you can hear that they didn't lose the
edge;
DEZERTER 4 songs 7"EP
10th anniversary of releasing their first EP ever
(relased in 1983 still in Iron Curtain times) was the
reason to record some old songs with a female singer. I
remember the final agreements made during Econochrist
show in Krakow interrupted by a gang of local nazis who
were later chased by majority of the audience and band
members themselves... Over a decade later, this 7"
became a classic itself, and is one of the best Dezerter
recordings ever. Mrs Nosowska (the singer on this
release) made a serious career in the showbiz in Poland

still does appear on stage during some Dezerter live
shows and adores La Fraction since they shared a stage
during Conflict reunion show in London in late 1990s.
The EP comes packaged in a gatefold sleeve with lyrics

of "Azotox" zine made by Dezerter drummer with a help
from anarcho-dadaist group "Tot-Art".

"FAMILY MAN have been
formed after I listened to a lot of post-My War Black
Flag and wondered why there are no bands playing the
slower and heavier brand of hardcore punk. We had just
split up with my former band ALLIANCE, and I had moved
to Glasgow where I started ATOMGEVITTER. Then I moved
back to Berlin and asked Machine (the bassist in
ALLIANCE) to start a new band. Michael Lampert joined in
on drums and Harald von der Hasenheide was recruited for
bass. Originally I wanted to sing like Rollins but
sounded more like Martin from LOS CRUDOS, so I was
nicknamed Henry Crudos by my friend Tommy. We didn't
want to repeat mistakes we did in former bands, such as
dragging out the time before the first gig or the first
tour, so we quickly played a first gig (with THE FIGHT),
and a second one in Berlin, then went straight on tour
in the UK. From then on it was as much touring as
possible. We recorded our first album at the practice
room, mixed it ourselves and off we went. For the second
LP we wanted to save time and have better sound, so we
went to Robin from THE NOW-DENIAL, who's a genius. It
took me some time to get accustomed to singing without a
guitar round my neck. But there ya go...
We really enjoy playing together, and just hanging out
with each other. The band's an amalgamation of
influences and ideas about punk rock, and we departed
from the Black Flag idea early on, but I think we
created our own style. I hope it's interesting music and
inspiring lyrics. I don't like to play boring rip-off

where the THE FIGHT are from. Right with the
one-minute-opener "Call it D.I.Y." they punch us with
best Hardcore/Punk with acrust edge that contains a
unmistakeable social-political message. For THE FIGHT
Punk is not just a four-letter word and thus on
"Maldicion" (spanish: curse) they offer twelve pissed

Never judge a book by
its cover or even look closer are valid expressions
here. At first glance this colourful, but yet
discrete, cover reminds me of what a children’s book
would look like. There’s something smooth over the use
of colors that sends a message of calm to it. But,
further examination shows what probably could be
described as the opposite – punks with patches from
Framtid, Infest, Discharge, Doom, Lärm etc are flying
the black flag while surrounded by the cops in riot
gear. Maybe this should be a book for kids after all?
Either way it’s a really cool painting. Musically were
talking about harsh frantic hardcore with intense
piercing female vocals. I was prepared at labelling
this as a sort of fastcore offspring while they all of
a sudden lay down some thick crust-reminiscent riffs
before they return back to the higher speeds by way of
catchy punk rock rhythms. Just like the sleeve you
first get one impression, one that soon gets thrown on
end. Dark music with a sharp sound, raging with a
catchy rhythm, breakneck speeds at a mid-paced tempo…
it’s all and none of the above. It’s fucking punk and
it’s doesn’t follow the rules. Maybe I’m overanalyzing
it all making this sound like it’s the most original
stuff I’ve ever heard, which it isn’t. But they have a
way of combining hardcore and punk in a way that feels
very fresh and very right. Does anyone remember the
Swedish band Sugar Pie Koko? I think the two bands are
somewhat comparable in way of style and intensity. All
rambling aside, this is a pretty kick ass hardcore

INKWIZYCJA.
They were the first band we released in 1991.
Intense hard core energy and very specific lyrics -
poetical, but still hard hitting.
The first d.i.y. record ever released in Poland was an
LP by a band from Krakow - INKWIZYCJA. They were one of
the biggest bands in late 80's / early 90's when the
d.i.y. scene was forming in Poland. They played close to
400 gigs at the time, mainly Poland, but also Austria,
Czech, their Italian tour was cancelled last minute...
They never stopped to play, but had to change line up
some times. From mid-90s the line up remains the same.
They've recorded some songs in '85 in Gold Rock Studio
(run by Armia guitarist Robert Brylewski). Then, in '97
they recorded another 5 songs, that were released a year
later as 7"EP "Slowo" (The word"). In 2000 NNNW released
cassette "Slowo i archiwalia" ("The word and archive")
including 7" tracks, 2 cuts from Gold Rock session and
another 2 taken from the very first demo the band
released themselves even before the LP. Another
side of the tape contains the band's singer's poetry set
(he used to have live shows for some years, published a
couple of volumes himself) with some strange sampled
music backgrounds. It's important to note, that the
band's lyrics and singer's poetry made them icons of the
anti-religious punk scene. One of their concerts was
banned by local bishop who got mad seeing posters for
INKWIZYCJA and AMEN concert in his town.

"Polish Knife in the
Leg have released two 7” splits, with The Fight and
Imperial Leather, and one full EP of their own – this
CD collects the first split with The Fight and the
Bloodlust E.P. that together totals ten tracks. On the
back of the CD, and on the lyricsheet, it states that
it’s the six Bloodlust E.P. tracks that are first when
it’s actually the four split tracks that are first,
but a sticker on the front explains this. An annoying
mistake I suspect, but it doesn’t affect the feel of
the music at all seeing as all the tracks are recorded
at the same time anyway, so it’s no big deal really.
I’ve already talked about the music of Knife in the
Leg here on this site and in the review of the
Bloodlust E.P. I described their work as speedy, sharp
edged, rocked out thrash that sounded like an American
band some twenty years ago paying a visit to Umea in
the early 00’s to update their sound a bit. I still
stand by those words and I still enjoy the pissed
thrash this band spit out. Then there are the four
tracks that I hadn’t heard before and they’re just as
raging. Fast stuff with lots of punk attitude and
great catchy hooks weaved in seamlessly. Excellent
stuff and I can’t understand why I haven’t picked up
the split with the Fight? Ah well, can’t win them all
– but I will keep my eyes and ears open for the
upcoming EP and split LP with Fix My Head so I won’t
look back on those and wonder the same thing."

This band from Polish seaside had already a demo tape
and 7" on Malarie, but that's hard to imagine this
record knowing only the old stuff. They menaged to
express the impression they do playing live -

trumpet parts, some "hit" riffs. They are usually
compared to Neurosis and Ambush, but they do their own
thing in this area of noise core. CD has 2 extra songs

take duties of the wholesaler of their 2009 album. After
touring Japan, Brazil and Europe, this international
political crust punk trio based in London gained some

"We all live in
London, but we are not an English band anyways. And
maybe our name, MEINHOF gives some suggestion, that we
come from Germany… We are just the international
threat. There are some doubts about or name, that
comes from a German activist, Urlike Meinhof… We do
not support Rote Armee Fraktion, as we do not support
killing people in the name of any political or
religious slogans… Our name, MEINHOF is just the name
of band… We believe our music and message is pretty
aggressive, then MEINHOF as the name fits well to our
style… but again it doesn’t mean, that we are Urlike

hardcore to punk sounds, and we do not call it by

Scottish anarcho punx got way heavier on this 2006

the title in English). They continue to sing in Gaelic -
the language used in parts of Scotland and Ireland. As
the line up got quite stable (especially in case of a
band with over 50 members in the past), musically it's
probably their best effort since "In defence..."
album.
Now available with an updated booklet containing all
lyrics and comments in English, not just Gaelic version

Eastern part of Poland gave birth to quite a few
great acts during last few years. This part, often
described as "Poland B" (in contrast to more wealthy
parts of the country), seems to have an ideal climate
for more angry, passionate acts. A coincidence? This

Madame Germen, Ekkaia and French screamo stuff may give

Severed Head of State return with nine punishing new
tracks. Hard driving riffs and angry vocals give this
release a real fist pumping intensity. A lot of the
songs are more mid tempo in the tradition of mid period
Poison Idea and other hardcore punk bands that took some
cues from Motorhead. Severed Head of State have been
going for ten years now, but are a band with no
geographic center and with all members playing in other
bands. Guitarist Todd Burdette (Tragdy, His Hero Is
Gone, Warcry) delivers some really searing guitar riffs
on this LP and the guitar tone is perfect for the style,
biting and corrosive like battery acid. Jack Control
(World Burns to Death) has always impressed me with his
raw and angry vocals and well thought out lyrics. A lot
of bands write about the horror of war and man's
inhumanity to man just because it's what fits the music.
When I read Jack's lyrics I see that he's looking beyond
the black and white pictures of war victims in the
history books. The atrocities are not the result of one
criminal act, but of the recurring process of
unrestrained power and authority run amok. The bleak
lryics and their focus on oppression and atrocity are a
searing reminder that there is much to be done and
things will probably get worse before they get any
better. I've always though bassist Kelly Halliburton
(Masskontroll, Defiance, Clusterbombunit, Resist) had
some of the best style in hardcore dropping in some of
his crucial Discharoge style "walking" bass fills.
Drummer Chris Pfeffer (Signal Lost, Storm the Tower,
Scorched Earth Policy) holds it all together with some
sick and precise beats. The CD version of this release
also contains the Charge Ahead and Fucking Butchery 7"s
as bonus tracks.
